Tampa, FL (Best E Casino) - The Tampa Bay Lightning front office has another spot to fill as Bill Barber will resign his post as director of player personnel, the team announced on Wednesday.

Barber, who has held the position for the past six years, will resign effective July 1.

During his tenure with the Lightning, Barber, 55, was an integral part of building the team that captured the Stanley Cup in 2004.

"Bill Barber was an integral part of our success during the past six seasons and his recommendations on player personnel helped us win the Stanley Cup in 2004," Lightning executive vice president and general manager Jay Feaster said. "He has served our organization with great pride, enthusiasm and loyalty and we will forever be indebted to him."

A member of the Hall of Fame as a player and a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Philadelphia Flyers, Barber stated that the travel his job entailed is one of the main reasons he has decided to step down.

"It hasn't been a secret to anyone in the organization that the travel these past few years has taken a bit of a toll on me," said Barber. "I would like to spend some quality time with my family, they deserve that. I would like to thank Mr. Davidson, Ron Campbell and Jay Feaster for giving me a great opportunity in Tampa and thank the staff there for working so well with me during the past six years. We won a Stanley Cup together, which is a very special thing in this game, as everyone knows, and I will never forget what we were able to accomplish."

It has been a busy past several days for Tampa Bay.

On Tuesday, the team named former Los Angeles Kings coach and ESPN analyst Barry Melrose as the new coach of the club. In addition, on Monday the team introduced its new ownership group, headed by Hollywood producer Oren Koules and former NHL player Len Barrie.

Last Friday, the team selected Steve Stamkos with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
