High-flying Angels go for road sweep of Nats

(Best E Casino) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been road warriors this season, with the best mark in baseball away from home. They will shoot for back-to-back road sweeps this evening, when the Angels wrap up a three- game interleague series against Washington at Nationals Park.

The American League West-leading Angels are 26-12 as the visitor this season and have won 10 of their last 11 road games. They opened a nine-game road trip with a three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies, then handed the Nationals a 3-2 setback in the opener of this series on Monday.

In the Angels' 8-3 victory last night, Mike Napoli led the way with a home run and three RBI in Anaheim's fifth straight win.

Howie Kendrick had two hits and an RBI for the Angels, while Torii Hunter ended with three hits and a run scored in the win. Starter Jon Garland lifted the Halos to a 5-0 mark on their current trek with seven innings of three-run ball.

The Angels are five games ahead of Oakland in the division standings.

Ervin Santana gets the nod for Anaheim tonight. Santana has won three of his last five starts to improve to 9-3 with a 3.17 earned run average over 15 trips to the rubber this season.

Santana, who is 6-1 in nine road starts in 2008, last took the ball on Friday at Philadelphia and allowed one unearned run and two hits in seven innings of a 7-1 triumph at Citizens Bank Park.

The right-hander faced Washington once in his career on June 14, 2005, recording a no-decision after surrendering one run in 6 1/3 innings.

Washington starter Shawn Hill, who didn't make it out of the fourth inning in his previous outing, was torched for eight runs -- six earned -- on eight hits in his three-inning start on Tuesday. Wily Mo Pena and Elijah Dukes each recorded a solo home run for the Nationals, who dropped their fourth straight game and committed four errors in the process.

The Nationals are 1-4 so far on a nine-game homestand and 15-25 in the nation's capital this season.

In other team news, Washington catcher/outfielder Paul Lo Duca left Tuesday's game with light-headedness and was immediately taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. Lo Duca, who was playing left field at the time, is listed as questionable tonight.

Tim Redding will start on the mound for the Nats tonight and he is 6-3 with a 4.12 earned run average in 16 starts. Redding has recorded six straight no- decisions, with Washington winning each of those outings.

The righty has won his last two decisions on May 14 and 19, but did not factor in the outcome of Friday's 4-3 victory over Texas at Nationals Park, when he gave up three runs in six innings of work. Redding has never squared off against the Angels in his career.

Washington won two of three games at Anaheim the last time these two ballclubs met, from June 13-15 of the 2005 season. The Angels are 9-5 against the National League this season, while the Nats are 5-9 in interleague action.
