Washington, DC (Best E Casino) - Washington Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season. Johnson, who missed the entire 2007 season after recovering from a broken right leg, has been on the disabled list since mid-May after tearing a tendon in his right wrist during an at-bat against the New York Mets. The 29-year-old was struggling prior to the injury, hitting just .220 with five home runs and 20 runs batted in through 38 games. However, he led the team with a .415 on-base percentage, and the wrist injury was expected to keep him out just four-to-six weeks. But the pain did not subside and Dr. Richard Berger had to repair a small split tear in a ligament in the ulnar side of his right wrist, effectively cutting the first baseman's season short yet again. It is the ninth consecutive season Johnson has sustained an injury, dating back to 2000, when he was in the New York Yankees' farm system.
