Greensboro, GA (Best E Casino) - Scott Hebert closed with a four-under 68 Sunday to walk away with a one-shot win at the 41st PGA Professional National Championship.

Hebert, a 39-year-old PGA head professional at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Acme, Michigan, finished the event at 12-under-par 276.

Sonny Skinner, who shared the lead entering the final round with Hebert and Kyle Flinton, posted a three-under 69 to take second at minus-11. Flinton managed a 72 to end alone in third at eight-under-par 280.

Ryan Benzel (67), who shared second place last year, and two-time winner Tim Thelen (69) tied for fourth place at seven-under-par 281.

Hebert had a steady front nine with eight pars and a single bogey that left him at minus-seven.

Around the turn, Hebert caught fire. He poured in three straight birdies from the 10th to jump to 10-under. After a pair of pars, Hebert birdied the 15th and 16th to take the lead. He parred the final two holes to fend off Skinner.

Skinner dropped a shot at the first, but bounced back with a birdie on the second. He posted back-to-back birdies from the sixth to move to 10-under.

He ran off nine straight pars from the eighth, then Skinner climbed within one of the lead with a birdie on the 17th. However, he could only par the last to finish one back.

The top 20 players all earned a berth in the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills in August.

Those who earned that berth included Tim Weinhart, Eric Dugas, James Estes, Brad Martin, David Long, Jeffrey Martin, Donald Yrene, Curt Sanders, Sam Arnold, Eric Manning, Vince Jewell, Alan Morin, Bradley Dean, Frank Esposito and Rick Leibovich.

Bruce Smith, Cleve Coldwater and Charles Meola tied for 19th with Esposito and Leibovich, but lost out on a trip to the PGA Championship via a sudden-death playoff.
