(Best E Casino) - The American League West-leading LA Angels of Anaheim will shoot for a three-game interleague series sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.

The Angels, who are 4 1/2 games ahead of Oakland in the division standings, have won the first two tests of this series in South Philly to open a lengthy nine-game road trip. They improved to an MLB-best 23-12 on the road this season after Saturday night's 6-2 victory behind the strong arm of starter Joe Saunders. Saunders allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings en route to becoming the American League's first 11-game winner. Francisco Rodriguez then hurled a scoreless ninth to notch his major league-leading 29th save.

Erick Aybar's two-out, two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning snapped a 2-2 tie and put the Angels ahead for good. Vladimir Guerrero continued to harass Philadelphia pitching with a pair of home runs for the Angels, who have won three of their last four contests. Chone Figgins finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Guerrero has hit safely in 12 straight games with a .458 batting average, six home runs and 12 RBI over that span. Guerrero homered in the first game of this series and owns 31 home runs and 84 RBI against Philadelphia.

Jered Weaver gets the nod for Anaheim on Sunday, and he is 6-7 with a 4.73 earned run average in 15 trips to the mound in 2008. Weaver had a personal two-start winning streak stopped in his previous outing on June 16 versus the New York Mets, when he was rocked for six runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 frames.

Weaver, who is 4-2 over the past six decisions, has never faced the Phillies.

NL East-leading Philadelphia has lost a season-high four straight games and will close out a six-game homestand this afternoon. It is just one game ahead of the Florida Marlins in the division and 22-17 as the host following last night's four-run defeat.

Jayson Werth belted a solo homer and Pedro Feliz doubled in a run for the Phillies, who are 1-4 on the homestand. Second baseman Chase Utley, who has gone hitless in his last 23 at-bats -- the longest stretch of his career -- was not in the lineup for Philadelphia (rest).

Phillies struggling starter Brett Myers was saddled with the loss, yielding four runs on six hits over 7 2/3 innings. The right-hander is winless in his last four starts, going 0-3 with a no-decision.

Cole Hamels will try to salvage the finale of this series for the Phillies when he takes the ball on Sunday. Hamels has won two straight decisions and is 5-1 over the past six outcomes. He last pitched during an 8-2 win over Boston on June 16, when he permitted a pair of runs and seven hits in seven innings.

The left-hander, who is 5-3 in nine home starts, has never faced the Angels.

Both ballclubs are meeting for the first time since the Angels won two of three games at home during the 2003 campaign.
