(Best E Casino) - The
Colorado Rockies will shoot for a series win this afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game series versus the
New York Mets at Coors Field.
Colorado dropped Friday's series opener by a 7-2 score, then rebounded with a 7-1 victory on Saturday in the second test. Ubaldo Jimenez finally put together a decent outing and allowed one run and two hits in eight innings of work, while striking out two and walking four batters.
Jimenez collected his first win since April 8, and was 0-6 in his last 13 starts. The right-hander also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe each hit solo home runs for Colorado, which got a two-run single from Matt Holliday.
The Rockies are 4-2 so far on a seven-game homestand and 20-18 as the host this season. They will send rookie Greg Reynolds to the mound on Sunday, and he is 2-4 with a 5.98 ERA in eight starts this season.
Reynolds has won two of his last three starts, recording a win over Cleveland on June 17 at Coors Field. In the 10-2 victory over the Indians, Reynolds hurled six innings of one-run ball and gave up five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Reynolds, who is 2-1 in five trips to the home hill in 2008, posted a no- decision in a 6-5 win over the Mets on May 23 at Coors Field. The righty was reached for four runs and four hits through six innings.
New York had a two-game winning streak stopped with Saturday's loss and fell to 3-2 on a six-game road trip. The Mets are 16-23 away from Shea Stadium this season and 2-2 since Jerry Manuel took over managerial duties from Willie Randolph, who was fired after Monday's win against the Angels.
Luis Castillo drove in the lone run yesterday while starter Pedro Martinez was tagged with the loss after he surrendered six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings of work in his fourth start since coming off the disabled list.
Mike Pelfrey will try to have better success on the mound today, when he toes the rubber for the Mets in the series finale. Pelfrey ended an 11-start winless skid in his previous trip to the mound on June 16 at Angel Stadium. He allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings, but New York was able to hang on to a 9-6 victory over Anaheim.
The right-hander faced Colorado once in his career on April 25 of the 2007 season, and was handed the loss after yielding six runs and eight hits in just three frames of an 11-5 setback at Shea Stadium.
The Rockies took two of three games from the Mets when these clubs faced off in Denver from May 23-25. New York is just 2-7 over its last nine tilts at Coors Field.
