Denver, CO (Best E Casino) - Ubaldo Jimenez threw eight solid innings as the Colorado Rockies dominated the New York Mets, 7-1, in the second of a three- game set at Coors Field.

Jimenez (2-7) allowed just one run on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts to pick up his first win since April 8, which was his second start of the season. He was 0-6 in his last 13 starts. The righthander also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

"They scratch a run right away, two hitters into the game," said Rockies manager Clint Hurdle about Jimenez. "Then nothing but zeros. Three-plus pitches, four at times, and he had it all working."

Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe each hit solo home runs while Matt Holliday added a two-run single for the Rockies, who have won four of their last five games.

Luis Castillo drove in the lone run while Pedro Martinez (2-1) was tagged for six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings in his fourth start since coming off the disabled list for the Mets, who had won four of five coming into the game.

"You have to just let it go," said Martinez. "It's not every day you're going to outdo a performance like you saw from that kid on the other side. I wish I could have, but it didn't happen."

New York is now 2-2 since Jerry Manuel took over managerial duties from Willie Randolph, who was fired after Monday's win against the Angels.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Jose Reyes led off with a triple and Castillo brought him home with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

New York got its first two runners on base in the fourth thanks to walks, but Carlos Beltran hit into a force out and Carlos Delgado then hit into a double play to kill the frame.

Colorado blew the game open in the fifth with six runs. Atkins started the inning with a shot over the left field wall and Hawpe followed with a shot of his own over the right field wall. Then with runners on first and third with one out, Willy Taveras hit a single to center to score Troy Tulowitzki. Jeff Baker then brought home Jimenez with a double to right and Holliday followed with a two-run single for a 6-1 lead.

The Rockies tacked on another run in the seventh as Taveras led off with a single, stole second and later came home on a single from Todd Helton for a 7-1 advantage.

New York tried to rally in the ninth as the team loaded the bases with no outs, but Trot Nixon struck out, Endy Chavez popped out to second and Robinson Cancel fouled out down the third base line to end the game.

Game Notes

Holliday has a 23-game hitting streak against the Mets and is 34-for-99 with four home runs during that span...Baker had homered in four straight games, but extended his hitting streak to seven games thanks to a 2-for-4 effort...Hawpe has an eight-game hitting streak...Martinez is 2-3 in nine career games (seven starts) against the Rockies...Colorado is 7-2 in its last nine games against the Mets at Coors Field...Taveras stole his 35th base of the season, which is a new career-high.
