(Best E Casino) - Pedro Martinez will make his fourth start since coming off the disabled list tonight, when the
New York Mets resume a three-game series against the
Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Martinez defeated the Texas Rangers on Sunday with six decent innings. He permitted just two runs, one of which was earned, and six hits to get the win in a 4-2 victory at Shea Stadium. Martinez's injured hamstring seems to be fine, as he has pitched no less than five innings in each outing since returning.
The right-hander is 2-0 with a 5.31 ERA in four starts this season, while sporting a 2-2 mark and a 3.86 earned run average in eight career games (six starts) against the Rockies.
In the opener of this set on Friday, Carlos Delgado smacked a two-run home run to help New York to a 7-2 win. Jose Reyes drove in a pair of runs while Trot Nixon added a solo shot for the Mets, who have won four of their last five and are now 2-1 since Jerry Manuel took over managerial duties from Willie Randolph.
John Maine (7-5) got the win as he gave up two runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Jeff Baker hit a two-run home run, his fourth consecutive game with a homer, while Aaron Cook (10-4) was handed the loss as he was touched for six runs on 12 hits in seven innings of work for the Rockies, who had won five of six coming into the game.
Colorado will send struggling pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound tonight, and he is only 1-7 with a 4.85 earned run average in 15 starts this season.
Jimenez has dropped six straight decisions and was saddled with the loss on Monday at Atlanta, when he yielded three runs -- two earned -- in five frames of a 7-1 setback at Coors Field.
The lanky righty will face the Mets for the first time in his career.
The Rockies took two of three games from the Mets when these clubs faced off in Denver from May 23-25. New York is just 2-6 over its last eight tilts at Coors Field.
