Philadelphia, PA (Best E Casino) - Ervin Santana was dominant on the mound and Los Angeles pounded out a season-high 17 hits, as the Angels bested the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-1, in the opener of a three-game interleague set at Citizens Bank Park.

Santana (9-3) held the Phillies to one unearned run on two hits and struck out a season-high-tying nine batters in seven innings of work.

Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run home run and added an RBI single for the Angels, who made their first-ever trip to the City of Brotherly Love. Garret Anderson finished 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored for LA, which has won two of three. Howie Kendrick went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run batted in, while Jeff Mathis was 2-for-3, walked twice and drove in a run.

Adam Eaton (2-5) was roughed up for six runs on 12 hits and three walks in five-plus innings to absorb the loss for Philadelphia, which has dropped five of its last six outings.

The Phillies generated only two hits, a one-out single by Shane Victorino in the first and a two-out double by Chris Coste in the second.

Chase Utley's sacrifice fly knocked in the Phillies lone run, but the second baseman still finished 0-for-3 to extend his hitless streak to a career-worst 0-for-23.

The Halos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on Guerrero's 11th home run of the season. Anderson prolonged the inning by stroking a two-out double down the right-field line, then Guerrero golfed a first-pitch changeup over the wall in left.

After Jimmy Rollins stared at strike three to begin the next frame, Victorino lined a single to center field, swiped second and took third on Mathis' throwing error. Utley, in the midst of his longest dry spell at the plate, went down on strikes. Ryan Howard then drew a walk, but Pat Burrell flied out to end the threat.

LA manufactured another two-out rally in the second. Chone Figgins reached first on an infield single, advanced to second on a walk to Maicer Izturis and scampered home on an RBI single by Anderson for a 3-0 lead.

The visitors loaded the bases with one out in the third, but Eaton induced a 1-2-3 inning-ending double play from Santana.

Consecutive singles by Izturis, Anderson and Guerrero to open the top of the sixth plated another run and chased Eaton from the game. Ryan Madson took over the mound duties and fanned Torii Hunter. Casey Kotchman then singled to score Anderson and Kendrick followed with a ground-rule double that gave LA a 6-0 lead.

Philadelphia got on the board in the bottom half as Rollins reached on Kotchman's fielding error, stole second, advanced to third when Mathis' throw sailed into center field and scored on Utley's sac fly.

Mathis' RBI double made it a 7-1 game in the eighth.
