New York, NY (Best E Casino) - Tino Martinez and Davey Johnson have been named managers for the Futures Game, which will be a part of the All-Star Game festivities in Detroit. The contest, which will take place on Sunday, July 13 at Yankee Stadium, will pit the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trial team against a team of minor leaguers born outside the United States. Although the game has been a seven-inning attraction since 2001, it has been stretched to nine innings this year. Johnson, the 1997 American League Manager of the Year, will manage the United States team less than a month before managing the U.S. squad at the Olympics in Beijing. In 14 seasons as a major league manager, Johnson compiled a 1,148-888 record with four different teams and led the New York Mets to the 1986 World Series title. As a player, Johnson played 13 years in the big leagues and won three Gold Glove Awards at second base. He also owns the single-season record for home runs by a second baseman, belting 43 for the Braves in 1973. Martinez, who won four World Series with the Yankees, will helm the World side. The first baseman hit .271 with 339 homers and 1,271 runs batted in over 16 seasons with the Yankees, Mariners, Cardinals and Devil Rays, including nine seasons with at least 20 homers and six with at least 100 RBI. He currently serves as a special assistant to the general manager for the Yankees.
