(Best E Casino) - The
New York Yankees try to continue their dominance of the AL West this evening when they play the second test of their three-game series with the
Oakland Athletics at McAfee Coliseum.
The Yankees improved to 7-0 against the division in the opener of this set on Tuesday, as Chien-Ming Wang picked up his first win since May 2, allowing a run and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings of his team's 3-1 win.
Bobby Abreu finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks for New York, which has won five of its last seven games overall. Alex Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Melky Cabrera added a solo home run. Jason Giambi also drove in a run.
Mariano Rivera bounced back from giving up a game-winning home run in Monday's loss to Kansas City to record his 17th save of the season.
Dana Eveland (4-5) allowed two runs on four hits and walked six over six innings to absorb the loss for Oakland. Mark Ellis went 3-for-4 with two doubles and knocked in the lone run for the A's, who have dropped three of their last four outings.
New York will hand the ball to Darrell Rasner, who has lost his last three starts. Rasner, though, was a hard-luck loser on Friday against Kansas City, as he allowed two runs and nine hits in a season-high eight innings, dropping him to 3-3 on the year to go along with a 2.58 ERA.
Rasner received a no-decision in his only other start against the A's, surrendering three unearned runs over 5 1/3 frames in that one.
Oakland will counter with left-hander Justin Duchscherer, who has been unbeatable at home this season. Duchscherer has won all four of his starts at McAfee this season, while pitching to a superb 1.69 ERA.
That trend continued last Wednesday against Detroit, as he allowed two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings to run his record to 5-4 overall on the season with a 2.32 ERA.
Duchscherer will be making his first-ever start against the Yanks, but has faced them seven times out of the bullpen, posting a an 0-1 mark to go along with a 6.75 ERA.
Oakland won four of its six matchups with the Yankees last season and is 10-6 against them since the start of the 2006 season, including a 4-3 mark at home in that span.
