(Best E Casino) - The
Houston Astros will try to string together consecutive victories tonight, when they resume a three-game series versus the
Milwaukee Brewers at Minute Maid Park.
Houston hasn't won back-to-back games since taking the middle two contests of a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies from May 23-24. It opened this set with Tuesday's 6-1 victory, with Lance Berkman ending with three hits, including a two-run blast, and five RBI to lead the way.
Berkman also tripled and clubbed his 19th home run of the season, while Darin Erstad contributed a pinch-hit RBI single for the Astros.
Starting pitcher Roy Oswalt allowed one run on five hits for the win and fanned 10 batters for Houston, which snapped a two-game slide and won for just the second time in six tries.
The Astros are 2-2 so far on a nine-game homestand versus the Cardinals, Brewers and Yankees. They are 17-11 at home this season.
Brandon Backe gets the start for Houston on Wednesday and he is 4-7 with a 4.66 ERA in 13 outings this season. He hasn't pitched too well lately, having lost two straight stars and four in six attempts.
Backe last pitched on Thursday at Pittsburgh, allowing four runs and nine hits in six innings of a 4-3 loss.
Backe, a right-hander, has been reliable at home in 2008, with a 3-1 mark and 2.90 ERA in five starts. He is 1-1 in two starts against Milwaukee this season and 3-2 with a 3.97 earned run average through eight career games (5 starts) against the Brewers. Backe recently lost to Milwaukee at Miller Park on May 30, allowing five runs in five innings during a 5-1 defeat.
Milwaukee fell to 1-3 on its six-game road trip and 14-21 away from home this season following Tuesday's setback. Ryan Braun hit his 17th home run of the season to account for the lone Milwaukee run.
Starter Seth McClung was saddled with the loss despite surrendering just two runs on three hits in six innings of work. Julian Tavarez then gave up four runs -- one earned -- in the seventh inning.
Manny Parra will handle pitching duties for the Brewers this evening. He has won two straight starts and three decisions in a row, including a June 4 performance versus Arizona in which he limited the D'Backs to one run and four hits over seven innings.
Parra, who has allowed one earned run or fewer in four of his last five starts, has a 1.38 ERA over his previous two outings.
The left-handed Californian is 1-1 with a 5.40 earned run average in two career starts -- both this season -- against Houston.
Houston is 4-3 against the Brewers this season, while Milwaukee was swept in three games at Minute Maid Park from May 2-4.
