Denver, CO (Best E Casino) - The Colorado Rockies activated outfielder Matt Holliday from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. The club also optioned outfielder Seth Smith to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room on the roster. Holliday, who had been sidelined with a strained left hamstring, went 0- for-3 with a run scored in Colorado's 10-5 victory against the San Francisco Giants in his return on Tuesday. The 28-year-old suffered the injury in a 9-2 loss to the New York Mets on May 24, when he tried to beat out a ground ball in the ninth inning, and was placed on the disabled list the next day. Holliday is the latest of a number of Rockies to come back from injury lately. Brad Hawpe came off the DL on Friday after missing time with a hamstring injury, while pitcher Luis Vizcaino is back after battling a shoulder injury. Holliday, who finished as the runner-up to Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins for National League Most Valuable Player honors last season, owns a team- best .321 batting average this season, and has hit eight home runs with 26 RBI in 46 games. Smith played in 12 games for Colorado, posting a .262 average with one homer and three RBI.
