Chicago White Sox will shoot for a four-game series sweep of the division-rival
Minnesota Twins this afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field.
Not only have the White Sox owned the Twins so far in this set, but they also have ripped off six straight wins to open a seven-game homestand. Chicago improved to 19-9 as the host this season following Sunday's 12-2 rout in the third installment of this series, with Nick Swisher belting a three-run homer and finishing with four RBI to lead the way.
Alexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a two-run blast and drove in three runs for the White Sox, who have won seven straight overall at home. Chicago has outscored Minnesota 33-10 thus far in the series and increased its lead in the AL Central over the second-place Twins to 5 1/2 games.
White Sox third baseman Joe Crede has been on a tear in this series, going 8- for-12 with four homers and 10 RBI so far.
Starting pitcher Gavin Floyd earned the win with seven strong innings in which he gave up two runs on six hits while fanning nine batters.
The White Sox are riding their longest winning streak since ripping off eight consecutive victories from May 14-22. They are searching for their first four- game sweep of the Twins since July 1-3 of the 1977 campaign.
Chicago hurler John Danks will make his third start against Minnesota this season and is 1-1 so far versus Minnesota. Danks, who owns a 2-3 mark with a 7.33 ERA in five career starts against the Twins, is 1-1 over his past five trips to the mound.
In a 6-4 win versus Kansas City on Wednesday, Danks limited the Royals to a pair of runs through 5 2/3 innings for a no-decision.
The left-hander is 4-4 with a 2.88 earned run average in 12 starts this season.
Minnesota has dropped four in a row and fell to 0-3 on a 10-game road trip after Sunday's 10-run setback. Jason Kubel had a solo home run and Justin Morneau had the other RBI for Minnesota, which is 12-16 away from the Metrodome this season.
Twins starter Kevin Slowey was charged with the loss, yielding eight runs on 10 hits in just three innings of work.
Minnesota will also visit Cleveland and Milwaukee for three games on this current trek.
Taking the ball for Minnesota on Monday will be Glen Perkins, who is 2-2 with a 4.50 earned run average through six starts this season. He is 0-1 in his past two trips to the hill and did not factor in the outcome of a 7-5 triumph over Baltimore on Wednesday. Perkins was reached for five runs -- four earned -- and nine hits in four frames against the Orioles.
The left-handed Perkins will be making his first career start versus the White Sox after recording a 2.70 earned run average over 6 2/3 innings of relief (3 games) against them.
Chicago is 6-4 against the Twins this season, with a 6-2 mark in the Windy City.
