TORONTO (AP) -Outfielder Vernon Wells rejoined the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, less than a month after fracturing his wrist while making a diving catch.

Wells was one of three players added to Toronto's roster before Saturday's game against Baltimore. The Blue Jays also activated infielder John McDonald from the 15-day disabled list and recalled right-hander Brian Wolfe from Triple-A Syracuse.

To make room on the roster, the Blue Jays placed second baseman Aaron Hill (concussion) on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 30, designated right-hander Armando Benitez for assignment and optioned utilityman Joe Inglett to Syracuse.

Wells and McDonald were flying to Toronto on Saturday from Florida, where both had been on rehabilitation assignments. Neither player was in the starting lineup, but both were available to come off the bench.

Wells, who is in the first season of a seven-year, $126-million contract, was batting .281 with five home runs and 24 RBIs in 36 games.

Wells was expected to miss six to eight weeks after landing awkwardly on his left wrist while making a catch in Cleveland on May 9. He began a rehab assignment Thursday and went 4-for-8 in two games before being activated.

``Maybe, for once, we caught a break and instead of a guy being out eight weeks, he's only out four,'' general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. ``It'll be good to have him back, obviously. Both of those guys.''

McDonald had to be carted off the field after rolling over in his right ankle in a game against Tampa Bay on May 6 . He is batting .182 with no homers and one RBI in 17 games.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
