(Best E Casino) - Shawn Chacon tries to bounce back from his shortest outing of the season this evening when the
Houston Astros continue their three-game series with the
St. Louis Cardinals at Minute Maid Park.
Chacon saw his two-start winning streak come to an end on Sunday in Milwaukee, as the Brewers battered him for four runs in just an inning of work. Chacon only surrendered two hits, but walked a pair and hit two batters with a pitch, as he fell to 2-1 on the season, while raising his earned run average to 4.41.
The 30-year-old right-hander defeated the Cards two starts ago and is 1-0 in his career against them with a save and a 3.52 ERA in 13 games (six starts).
St. Louis will counter with righty Adam Wainwright, who also had a two-start winning streak halted in his last trip to the hill. Wainwright was defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, as he allowed five runs and seven hits in eight innings, dropping him to 5-3 on the season to go along with a 3.12 ERA.
Wainwright picked up a win over the Astros on May 28 and is a perfect 4-0 lifetime against them with a save and a 2.18 ERA in 11 games, five of which have been starts.
In the opener of this set on Friday, Brian Moehler allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings, helping Houston to a 6-1 win. Moehler (3-2) struck out five and issued two walks as the Astros won for just the second time in their last nine games.
Hunter Pence doubled and knocked in a run, while Geoff Blum hit a solo homer and Kaz Matsui added an RBI single.
Skip Schumaker and Adam Kennedy had two hits apiece for the Cardinals, losers of two straight.
Braden Looper (7-5) dropped the decision after allowing five runs -- two earned -- on eight hits in six innings, tying a career high with seven strikeouts without walking a batter.
These NL Central foes have already met 10 times this season, with the Cardinals winning six of the clashes. The Cardinals took two of three games from the Astros at Minute Maid Park from April 7-9.
