Minneapolis, MN (Best E Casino) - Jason Kubel went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, including the go-ahead run in the sixth, as the
Minnesota Twins rallied to beat the
Baltimore Orioles, 7-5, in the second contest of a three- game set from the Metrodome.
Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and finished with three RBI for the Twins, who have won three of their last four. Michael Cuddyer scored twice in the win.
Glen Perkins started for Minnesota, but didn't factor in the decision as he went just four innings and gave up five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits. Boof Bonser (3-6) took the win as he threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Joe Nathan earned his 16th save of the year with a perfect ninth.
Kevin Millar and Melvin Mora each hit solo home runs for the Orioles, who have dropped five of their last seven contests. Brian Roberts went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while Nick Markakis had two hits and one RBI.
Daniel Cabrera (5-2) took the loss for the O's, allowing six runs on eight hits over six frames.
Cuddyer opened the home sixth with a single and scored as Kubel followed with a triple. Kubel touched home himself as Delmon Young lofted a sacrifice fly to right, and the Twins assumed the lead, 6-5.
Mauer made it 7-5 in the seventh with a solo shot off Jamie Walker to the upper deck in right field.
"I was looking in, I faced him (Walker) quite a bit," Mauer said. "I was sitting on it, I swung and I got it."
Nathan took over on the mound in the ninth and got pinch-hitter Luke Scott to go down swinging. Roberts flied out to left-center for the second out and Markakis grounded out to seal the win.
Back-to-back, two-out solo homers from Mora and Millar put the O's on top 2-0 in the first inning.
Baltimore went up 3-0 the very next inning. Jay Payton led the second frame off with a double, moved to third on Alex Cintron's sac bunt and scored on a Roberts single up the middle.
Minnesota rallied in the home second to make it 3-2. Justin Morneau singled and Cuddyer was hit by a pitch, before Kubel hit an RBI single up the middle and advanced to second on the throw. Young then lined into a double play, but Cuddyer crossed home when Cabrera threw a wild pitch.
The Orioles added to their lead in the fourth. Payton worked a lead-off walk and Cintron flied out. Roberts then connected on a double to left, scoring Payton, and moved to third on Young's throwing error. Markakis singled up the middle to plate Roberts, and Baltimore had a 5-2 advantage.
The Twins rallied again in the fifth. Nick Punto and Carlos Gomez started things off with consecutive singles. Alexi Casilla then moved both runners into scoring position with a sac bunt. Mauer offered a sac fly to center to plate both runners and bring Minnesota within 5-4.
"We jumped out to an early lead," Roberts said. "You know when you come here they're going to get at you all game. It seems whenever we added runs they came back and did the same."
