Mississauga, ON (Best E Casino) - The Toronto Argonauts have signed kicker Mike Vanderjagt. Terms of the deal for the NFL's most accurate kicker were not disclosed. Vanderjagt helped the Argos to consecutive Grey Cup titles in 1996 and '97, then left for the NFL and spent eight seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before playing part of one year with the Dallas Cowboys. During his time in the NFL, Vanderjagt established a record by connecting on 86.4 percent of his field goal tries. He was perfect during the 2003 season, drilling each of his 37 field goal attempts and all 46 point-after tries. An Oakville, Ontario native, Vanderjagt was the 1996 Grey Cup Most Outstanding Canadian and was a CFL All-Star in 1997 when he scored 190 points. "Mike Vanderjagt is probably the best field goal kicker in the history of the game," said Argos general manager Adam Rita. "We know him, he's been an Argonaut before and we think he'll be good in the locker room and on the field. We're ecstatic to have the hometown boy back again." The Argos were in need of a kicker after trading 10-year veteran Noel Prefontaine to Edmonton for draft picks earlier Saturday.
