Concord, NC (Best E Casino) - On Saturday afternoon, the No.66 and No.70 Haas CNC Racing Sprint Cup cars were packed on a tow truck and sent to NASCAR's Research and Development Center after they failed a second check. Both cars had qualified for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 and both Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter will be forced to start from the back in their backup cars. Wing mounting plates on the decklid appeared to be the problem. "The discrepancy was brought to our attention, and we addressed it," said NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp. "The garage is a self-policing area. We follow- up on information we get and we're always inspecting race cars. That was the case with this." A similar problem was found on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No.8 DEI Chevrolet last year and the team received both a points (100) and monetary penalty ($100,000).
