Detroit, MI (Best E Casino) - Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Gary Roberts will be absent from Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Franzen, who has been sidelined due to concussion-like symptoms since Game 2 of the Western Conference finals, accumulated a league-high and franchise- record 12 goals through his first 11 games in the postseason. He has not played since the Wings' 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on May 8. Roberts, whose season has been pock-marked with injury, was given word from Pittsburgh head coach Michel Therrien Friday that he will be scratched from the lineup when the chase for the Cup begins on Saturday in Detroit. The 42-year-old rebounded from a broken leg suffered in the regular season as well as various maladies in the playoffs to post two goals and three points in six contests. He missed the final three games of the Penguins' five-game Eastern finals win over the Flyers with pneumonia. This will be Pittsburgh's first trip back to the Stanley Cup Finals since 1992, when the club won the second of back-to-back titles. The Red Wings have not made the final round since winning the Cup in 2002. The teams have not previously met in the playoffs.
