New York, NY (Best E Casino) - Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano was selected as the National League Player of the Week for the period ending May 18.

Soriano, who was on the disabled list last month with a strained right calf, slugged seven home runs, including two multi-home run games on Friday and Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He became the second leadoff hitter in the past 40 years with back-to-back multi-home run efforts.

The six-time All Star added 14 RBI while batting .516 (16-for-31), helping Chicago stay atop the NL Central standings .

His 45th-career leadoff home run on Tuesday pushed him past Brady Anderson for third place on the all-time list.
