Richmond, VA (Best E Casino) - One of this year's biggest free-agents-to-be in motorsports is off the market. Carl Edwards has signed a multi-year deal to remain at NASCAR's Roush Fenway Racing.

The personable driver of the No.99 Ford would have been near the top of the list for every team owner.

After getting out of his Ford while testing at Richmond for Saturday night's Sprint Cup race, Edwards said "I signed my contract, so I'm staying with Roush."

No details on terms or length were mentioned.

Edwards is currently 10th in the standings, despite a 100-point penalty after the race in Las Vegas which also saw him lose his crew chief, Bob Osborne, for six weeks to a suspension. Edwards leads the series with three wins.

In his first full year of Sprint Cup racing, Edwards finished in a tie for second just 35 points behind Tony Stewart. The season included four wins. Though he failed to win a race in 2006, Edwards came back in 2007 with three wins and a spot in the "Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Edwards won the 2007 Nationwide Series championship and was the 2003 Craftsman Truck Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

"I've struggled since I've been here with changing people and having different pit-crew guys, and I feel like finally with Robbie (Reiser) managing that, I've got a group of guys that are going to be really good over the next three years," Edwards said to NASCAR.com's Josh Pate. "I kind of know everything and where it's headed. We're winning right now and I think it's going to be better, so that kind of made it easy for me."
