Anaheim, CA (Best E Casino) - Mike Modano scored the game-winning goal in the third period as the Dallas Stars grabbed a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 2 of the Western Conference quarterfinals at Honda Center.

Mike Ribeiro had a goal and two assists while Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson each tallied a goal and an assist for the Stars, who now hold a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Marty Turco stopped 20 shots in the win.

"I said from the start that it would be good to start on the road in a hostile environment and dig in together," Modano said. "We are focusing now on Tuesday, and it is huge to work this hard and head home up 2-0."

Teemu Selanne and Travis Moen each scored a goal while Jean-Sebastien Giguere was lit up for five goals on 30 shots for the Ducks, who face an uphill battle if they wish to advance to the second round.

"We were down 2-0 and we battled hard and came back," Giguere said. "I thought we were doing a good job and it was looking good for the third period. As soon as they scored that third goal on the power play after we had two power plays, I guess it just collapsed us. It's just unacceptable."

The next two games of the series will take place in Dallas with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday.

Dallas had blown a two-goal lead in the second period, but scored three unanswered goals in the third to grab the win.

On the power play, Modano fired a slap shot from the high slot through a screen and past Giguere for a 3-2 lead at the 5:47 mark of the third.

Less than a minute later, Richards took a pass on the fly near the right point and from down low slipped a wrister between the pads of Giguere for a 4-2 advantage.

Eriksson sealed the win with 5:24 to play as his shot from the low slot with traffic in front found the back of the net.

Dallas grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 6:38 mark of the first period as Ribeiro caused a turnover at his own blueline, skated down the ice on a breakaway and lifted a backhander over the glove of Giguere.

Turco made seven saves in the first period to keep Anaheim off the board.

The Stars used the power play to take a 2-0 lead just 1:28 into the second period. Stephane Robidas blasted a shot from the high slot that Giguere stopped, but he was unable to cover up the rebound and Jere Lehtinen knocked the loose puck in.

However, the Ducks scored the next two goals to tie the game.

On the power play, Scott Niedermayer's bouncing shot from the right point was tipped in by Selanne down low at the 3:41 mark of the second.

Then with 3:41 remaining in the second period, Anaheim tied the contest as Todd Bertuzzi sent a pass from the left point to Moen, who was cutting into the slot and went from the backhand to the forehand before slipping the disc past Turco.

Game Notes

Dallas went 2-for-6 on the power play while Anaheim finished the game 1- for-6...The goal was Selanne's 30th in his playoff career...Ribeiro has one goal and four assists so far in the playoffs...Giguere has allowed nine goals on 67 shots thus far in the series.
