Boston Celtics will try to wrap up a perfect road trip this evening, when they take on the
Washington Wizards in a battle between playoff-bound teams at the Verizon Center.
Boston has won seven in a row overall and improved to 2-0 on the trek following Tuesday's 107-104 overtime victory against the Milwaukee Bucks at the Bradley Center. Kevin Garnett scored 21 points and Tony Allen poured in 17 for the Celtics, who have already clinched the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
James Posey chipped in 16 points for Boston, while Paul Pierce and Leon Powe added 14 apiece. Ray Allen had 11 points in victory, as the Celtics improved to 29-9 away from Beantown this season.
The Celtics have won three straight and 11 of their last 12 road games. Boston guard Sam Cassell (back) is expected to miss tonight's game.
Washington will shoot for its third straight win when it takes on Boston Wednesday night. The Wizards have won two in a row since a three-game slide, and recorded a 99-87 victory over Chicago on Saturday at the United Center.
Brendan Haywood scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the short-handed Wizards, who played without Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas. Jamison was nursing a sprained right shoulder, while Arenas (knee) sat out for precautionary reasons. The Wizards are fifth in the East standings, just one game ahead Philadelphia and two games in front of Toronto.
Caron Butler added 18 points and eight rebounds in a winning effort. Butler is questionable for this evening, while Jamison and Arenas are listed as probable.
The Wizards are 2-1 against the Celtics this season, and have won six of the last seven meetings.
