(Best E Casino) - The Eastern Conference-leading
Ottawa Senators will try to get back in the win column tonight, when they visit the
New Jersey Devils for a battle at the Prudential Center.
The Senators, who are tops in the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference with 72 points, had a two-game win streak halted Tuesday evening against the visiting Buffalo Sabres. Thomas Vanek recorded his first career hat trick, as Buffalo used a four-goal third period to top Ottawa, 5-1, at Scotiabank Place.
Randy Robitaille scored for the Senators, who have lost four of their last six games. Ray Emery allowed all five goals on 39 shots in the loss.
A pair of new teammates made their debut for Ottawa on Tuesday, as forward Cory Stillman and defenseman Mike Commodore played their first games since coming over in Monday's trade with Carolina. The Senators sent forward Patrick Eaves and defenseman Joe Corvo to the Hurricanes.
Stillman posted an assist in Tuesday's loss, while Commodore logged 17 minutes of ice time.
The Senators are 16-9-2 as the visiting team this season and after tonight, they will return home for a three-game stand beginning with Saturday's test against New Jersey. This is not a home-and-home series because the Devils will host Atlanta on Friday before making the trip to Ottawa this weekend.
The Devils will try to keep their offense going tonight after slamming Carolina, 6-1, in a home test on Saturday. It marked the second time in five games that New Jersey put up a six-goal performance, as it also beat Los Angeles, 6-3, on February 2.
Paul Martin scored a pair of goals and Martin Brodeur ended with 22 saves as the Devils stormed past the Hurricanes at the Prudential Center.
Jay Pandolfo had a goal and an assist for the Devils, who snapped a two-game skid. Colin White, David Oduya and Dainius Zubrus also tallied, while Dave Clarkson, Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrick Elias each added a pair of assists.
Tonight's test marks the third portion of a four-game homestand for the Devils, who are 17-11-0 in the inaugural season at the Prudential Center.
Ottawa is 2-0 against the Devils this season and has taken four of seven and five of the last nine in the series. However, the Senators have been handed defeats in four of their last six stops in New Jersey.
The Sens played the first-ever game at the Prudential Center on October 27 and posted a 4-1 victory.
