Washington Wizards attempt to put the brakes on a seven-game losing streak when they visit the
Golden State Warriors tonight at ORACLE Arena.
Washington will play the third of a four-game road trip. On Sunday, Amare Stoudemire scored 31 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and hit two crucial free throws in the waning seconds of the final quarter to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 108-107 win over the Wizards at US Airways Center.
Antawn Jamison scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wizards, who have lost a season-worst seven in a row. Brendan Haywood chipped in 21 points and pulled down 10 boards for Washington, which is on its longest skid since dropping seven in a row from March 5-16, 2004.
On the injury front for Washington, All-Star forward Caron Butler (strained left hip flexor) is doubtful for Monday. Butler is averaging 21.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists this season. He has missed three straight games.
The Wizards are 9-15 on the road this season. They will visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday at the Staples Center.
Golden State plays the fourth of a five-game homestand this evening. Stephen Jackson scored 26 points, including two late free throws that put the game away, to lead the Warriors past the Sacramento Kings, 105-102, on Sunday at ORACLE Arena.
Monta Ellis poured in 16 of his game-high 34 points in the final quarter, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists for the Warriors, who won for the third time in their last four contests overall. Al Harrington ended with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Warriors are 15-9 at home this season. They will host Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday at ORACLE Arena.
Jackson (sprained left ankle) is probable for tonight's contest.
This is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On November 23rd, Baron Davis recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists as the Warriors beat Washington, 123-115, at the Verizon Center.
The Warriors have won two in a row in the series. Washington has lost three of its last five at Golden State.
