Vancouver, BC (Best E Casino) - Ryan Shannon scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Vancouver Canucks continued their domination of the Chicago Blackhawks with a 3-2 win at General Motors Place.

In the second round of the shootout, Shannon skated in on net, slammed on the brakes in front and spun around before backhanding the puck past Nikolai Khabibulin.

"I guess there's no such rule against it," Khabibulin said of the spin move. "There's no rule, I guess he can do that, but he's going to pay the price for that."

Roberto Luongo then made pad saves on Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp to preserve the win for the Canucks.

"I hear he's used it before," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said of the move by Shannon. "And as long as you're keeping in motion it's allowed. So from our standpoint, obviously, we think it's good. From their standpoint they are probably going to complain. But that being said we should have won that earlier."

Markus Naslund and Alexandre Burrows each had a goal and Luongo finished the game with 16 saves for Vancouver, which had lost five of six coming into the contest.

Vancouver has now won four straight and 10 of the last 11 games against Chicago.

Cameron Barker had a goal and an assist while Sharp added a goal for the Blackhawks, who have dropped six of their last seven games. Khabibulin finished the game with 32 saves.

Trailing, 1-0, heading into the third period, the Blackhawks tied the contest less than six minutes into the final stanza. Toews caused a turnover as Vancouver was trying to get the puck out of its own end and from the left circle he centered the puck to Sharp, who rifled a wrister past Luongo for his 26th goal of the season.

Chicago then took a 2-1 lead on a lucky break with 4:05 to play in regulation. Barker had the puck at the left point and threw a shot on net that hit off the stick of Vancouver's Taylor Pyatt. The disc popped high into the air where everyone lost track of it and wound up in the net before Luongo was able to react.

Vancouver, though, pulled Luongo in the final two minutes of the game and the move paid off. Mattias Ohlund had the puck at the right point and blasted a shot on net that hit off the stick of Chicago's Patrick Kane in the slot and went to Naslund, who redirected the puck into the net from the left side for his 20th goal of the season with 1:18 to play to force overtime.

The Canucks had the best opportunity to win in overtime as the team was awarded a penalty shot after Chicago's Brent Sopel was called for deliberately dislodging the net with 2:07 to play. Henrik Sedin was called to take the shot and faked to the backhand, but the puck squirted away from his stick before he was able to get a shot off.

Neither team got on the scoreboard in the first period with Vancouver throwing 11 shots on net and Chicago eight.

The Canucks grabbed a 1-0 lead just 1:43 into the second period. Sedin sprung Burrows on a breakaway and the let wing flew into the Chicago end, made a deke and roofed a backhander for his seventh goal of the season.

Luongo only needed to make four saves in the middle stanza to keep Chicago off the board.

Game Notes

The Canucks host Edmonton on Thursday...Chicago continues its seven-game road trip in Columbus on Wednesday...Toews returned to play after missing the past 16 games with a knee injury...Neither team scored on the power play with Vancouver having four chances and Chicago five.
