St. Louis, MO (Best E Casino) - Brent Burns scored the game-winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout as the Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, at Scottrade Center.

Burns, who scored the overtime winner in Saturday 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders, made a fake move, then went to the forehand and beat a sprawling Manny Legace to give the Wild the advantage. Lee Stempniak needed to score to keep the shootout alive, but missed the net on a wrist shot and Minnesota prevailed.

"I just lost the skills competition again," Legace said talking about Burns' goal. "I hate those stops when they come in on the side (of the goal) and put the brakes on and pull it back. I think you should always keep the forward motion. Once you stop and put the brakes on (the play should be dead). It was a good move."

Marian Gaborik tallied in regulation for the Wild, who have won two straight and five of their last seven.

Josh Harding was solid in goal for Minnesota, stopping 20-of-21 shots.

"During the game he made some (good saves), you know and in overtime he made two good, really good saves," Minnesota coach Jacques Lemaire said. "I remember a couple in the third period. He had a real good game for us. He really gave us a chance to win."

Paul Kariya scored for St. Louis, which has lost four consecutive games and 11 of its last 13. Legace made 24 stops for the Blues.

With the contest tied at 1-1 after two periods, both team's continued to play it close to the best, not allowing any scoring opportunities and the game went into overtime.

In the extra period, each team had quality scoring opportunities, but the goaltenders came to the forefront making some spectacular saves. Gaborik had the best chance to end the contest, when the talented right winger had a breakaway, but Legace made a sprawling save with 14 seconds left. Minnesota then won the ensuing faceoff and Brian Rolston's blast from the middle point with four ticks remaining went wide and the game went to the shootout.

Minnesota took the early lead, lighting the lamp 5:21 into the opening frame. Gaborik took a feed from Kim Johnsson and fired a wrist shot from the middle left circle that beat Legace.

Kariya's power play tally with 7:07 left in the first tied the contest. With Mikko Koivu in the box serving a delay of game penalty, Andy McDonald's shot from the point was stopped by Harding, but Kariya, who was standing all alone in front, found the rebound and put it into the open net to even things.
