(Best E Casino) - The Stars didn't miss a beat without their number one goaltender two days ago. Dallas will try to match its season-high win streak tonight, likely with Marty Turco back in net, when it welcomes the
St. Louis Blues to American Airlines Center.
The Stars have won their last five games, one shy of their season-best six- game win streak set from November 16-26. Dallas played its last game without Turco, who did not travel to Minnesota because of a sore neck.
Mike Smith started in his place and backstopped the Stars to a 1-0 victory over the Wild. Smith made 25 saves in posting his second shutout of the season.
Niklas Hagman's goal early in the third period proved to be all the offense Smith needed. Loui Eriksson and Jussi Jokinen each notched assists on Hagman's tally.
Hagman, who has already set career highs this season in goals (20) and points (31), notched his seventh game-winning goal, good for second in the NHL.
Turco has won his last four starts while posting a 1.71 goals-against average in that span and is probable for tonight. He is 8-4-1 with a tie and 1.94 GAA in 15 career games against St. Louis.
Should Turco be unable to go tonight, Smith would make his fourth career start against the Blues. He is 1-2-0 with a 3.93 GAA lifetime against them.
The Stars, who lead the Pacific Division by four points over San Jose and Anaheim, play the first of back-to-back home games tonight. Dallas will host Phoenix on Monday and is 16-9-2 as the host this year.
St. Louis has lost two straight and nine of its last 11 after Tuesday's 5-4 setback against Tampa Bay. Brad Boyes, Keith Tkachuk, Jamal Mayers and David Perron scored for the Blues, and Andy McDonald had two assists.
Boyes' tally was his 30th of the season, as he became the first Blues player to hit that mark since Tkachuk did so during the 2003-04 season.
Eric Brewer also had two assists in the setback, and will make his debut as St. Louis' captain tonight after getting named to the honor on Friday. The 28- year-old defenseman becomes the 19th captain in club history. Tkachuk, Paul Kariya and Barret Jackman were all named permanent assistant captains.
Manny Legace made 19 saves against Tampa Bay, but allowed five goals for a second straight start after shutting out Anaheim on February 1. The All-Star netminder is 1-2-1 with a 2.95 GAA in his last five road starts and 5-2-1 with two ties and a 1.62 GAA in 12 lifetime appearances versus the Stars.
St. Louis will try to improve on its 9-11-3 road mark tonight before returning home for two straight. The Blues have dropped five of their last six on the road.
These two clubs have split a pair of meetings so far this season, with each team winning once on home ice. St. Louis has won four of its last five against the Stars, though the Blues are just 1-7 with a tie in their last nine trips to Dallas.
