Edmonton, AB (Best E Casino) - The Edmonton Eskimos acquired defensive end Fred Perry and a second round pick in the 2008 CFL Draft from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for quarterback Steven Jyles and Edmonton's second round pick in the 2008 CFL Draft. Perry spent the last three seasons with the Riders and started all 18 games last year, including two playoff games and the Grey Cup. He recorded team- highs in defensive tackles (70), sacks (8), tackles for losses (9) and fumble recoveries (3). Perry was selected as a CFL All-Star in 2006 and 2007. "Fred is a proven commodity," Eskimos director of football operations and head coach Danny Maciocia said. "He's a force coming off the edge and is one of the premier defensive players in the CFL." Jyles spent the last two seasons with Edmonton backing up Ricky Ray. He dressed in all 36 games and completed 25-of-51 passes for 262 yards, also recording 87 rushing yards and four touchdowns. "In making this deal, we accomplish three things," Riders general manager Eric Tillman said. "One, we're acquiring a young quarterback, Steven Jyles, who at 25, has significant long-term upside. Two, we'll be moving up six very important spots in the CFL draft, and we place a high premium on young Canadian talent, and, third, this trade provides us critical salary cap flexibility, which will impact another move or two in the coming weeks."
