Ottawa, ON (Best E Casino) - Ottawa Senators president, chief executive officer and alternate governor Roy Mlakar has signed a contact extension through the end of the 2008-09 season, the team announced on Thursday. "Roy has been an important part of the Senators for over a decade," said club owner Eugene Melnyk. "He remains deeply committed to our organization and I'm looking forward to continuing to work closely with him in managing the club and our various community initiatives." The 2007-08 season is Mlakar's 12th as president and CEO of the Ottawa Senators. He was elevated to his dual role with Scotiabank Place in May of 1998. "It's an honor and pleasure to work with Mr. Melnyk and to continue the great contributions that we, as Hockey Country, have made to our community," said Mlakar. "Our mission continues to be to bring the Stanley Cup back to Ottawa for our fans and Mr. Melnyk, and to make our city stronger." Mlakar spent seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, including five as an executive vice-president and two as club president. After leaving Los Angeles, he served as chief operating officer for the Pittsburgh Penguins for two seasons before joining the Senators.
