New York, NY (Best E Casino) - Alex Frolov and Anze Kopitar both registered a goal and an assist while Jason LaBarbera was stellar with 39 saves, as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers, 4-2, at Madison Square Garden.

Scott Thornton and Brian Boyle also scored for the Kings, who improved to 2-1-1 on their current eight-game road trip that will continue in Detroit on Thursday.

Chris Drury and Sean Avery scored for New York, which saw its three-game win streak halted. Henrik Lundqvist allowed four goals on 31 shots in the loss.

The Kings led 3-2 after 40 minutes of action and Kopitar's goal early in the third period gave the visitors a comfortable two-goal advantage. Frolov out- hustled both Drury and Fedor Tyutin for control of the puck along the rear boards and sent a pass into the low slot, where Kopitar's one-timer lit the lamp at the 1:21 mark.

LaBarbera and the Kings defensive corps kept the puck away from their own net for most of the remainder of the period, and also stayed out of the penalty box. The Rangers best scoring chance occurred with under four minutes remaining when Tyutin had a good look from the left point, but his slap shot was gloved by LaBarbera.

New York is now 0-6-2 versus the Western Conference this season.

After Thornton opened the scoring midway through the first period, Boyle's second goal of the season gave the Kings a 2-0 lead at the 13:08 mark of the first stanza.

The Kings maintained solid forechecking pressure in their offensive zone and a strong effort by Jeff Giuliano along the rear boards allowed Matt Moulson to emerge with control of the puck. Moulson curled near the base of the right half-wall and sent a cross-ice pass for Boyle, whose wrister from beneath the left circle beat Lundqvist.

New York cut its deficit in half with 2:10 remaining before the first intermission courtesy of a nice individual effort by Drury. After a flurry of shots that were all saved by LaBarbera, Drury dug the puck out from behind the net and mustered a pass back to the left point for Paul Mara, who then passed across the blue line to the opposite side for a shot by Nigel Dawes. LaBarbera stopped Dawes' shot, but the rebound was punched home by Drury at the right post.

Frolov's 13th tally of the season -- a tip-in goal from the top of the crease after Kopitar's pass -- at the 9:18 mark restored LA's two-goal edge. The marker energized the entire corps of Kings' forwards, who controlled the puck in the offensive zone for the better part of four minutes thereafter.

With 3:34 to play in the middle session, Avery's rebound goal made it 3-2.
