New York Rangers will shoot for their longest winning streak in over two months, when they welcome the lowly
Los Angeles Kings for tonight's encounter at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers have won three straight contests and tonight will try to notch four in a row for the first time since a five-game run from November 8-17.
New York's current winning streak came in the final three tests of a four- game road trip. The Rangers will now play two straight at home, as they will also host Anaheim on Thursday.
The Rangers' most recent victory came in Sunday afternoon's comeback win in Montreal. Chris Drury tallied the go-ahead score and added an assist, as New York came from three goals down to beat the Canadiens, 5-3, at the Bell Centre.
Scott Gomez and Martin Straka also had a goal and an assist each for New York, while Michal Rozsival and Brandon Dubinsky notched a goal apiece.
Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves in the win for the Rangers, who were down 3-0 early in the second period. However, New York tallied three times in the second to knot the score heading into the third period, where Drury would give the Rangers the lead with 9:51 remaining.
The Rangers are 17-11-0 as the host this year and have won four of their last five at MSG.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles is 1-1-1 so far on a season-high eight-game road trip.
After losing an overtime test in Philadelphia and beating the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum, the Kings were handed a decisive loss in New Jersey on Saturday. Colin White posted a goal and an assist as the Devils blistered the Kings, 6-3, at the Prudential Center.
It was the Kings' first trip to New Jersey in four years, as they had not visited since a 3-2 overtime loss on February 15, 2004.
Brian Boyle, Jack Johnson and Lubomir Visnovsky lit the lamp for the Kings, who have dropped two of three and three of their last five games overall. Jason LaBarbera allowed five goals on 24 shots over two periods, while Jean- Sebastien Aubin made two saves the rest of the way.
The Kings, who are last in the NHL with 45 points this year, are just 9-14-2 as the visiting team.
Los Angeles is making its first stop in New York City since posting a 6-2 win at MSG on October 25, 2002. The Kings have won three of the last four meetings between the clubs, but LA is just 2-9 with a tie in its previous 12 trips to the Big Apple.
