Irving, TX (Best E Casino) - The Dallas Cowboys announced Tuesday that the club has hired Dave Campo as its secondary coach. Campo started his professional coaching career on Jimmy Johnson's Dallas staff in 1989 as a defensive assistant. He then rose through the ranks and earned the title of secondary coach in 1991, defensive coordinator in 1995 and head coach in 2000. "We welcome Dave back to the organization," said owner Jerry Jones. "We viewed these openings (on the coaching staff) as an opportunity to bring in the very best coaches available with a strong emphasis on NFL coaching experience. Dave Campo certainly fits those qualifications." Campo has tasted success as a defensive-minded coach, guiding defenses that finished in the top-10 in the league in total defense four of the seven years he was a coordinator and once as a head coach. Throughout his 19 years as an NFL coach, Campo has been a part of three Super Bowl championship teams (XXVII, XXVIII and XXX), while reaching the postseason 10 times (eight with Dallas and two with Jacksonville). Campo inherits a Cowboys secondary that finished the 2007 season tied for sixth in the league with 19 interceptions while finishing 13th in the league in pass defense.
