Dallas, TX (Best E Casino) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 points and pulled down eight rebounds and the
Dallas Mavericks outscored the
Golden State Warriors 32-14 in the fourth quarter en route to a 121-99 victory at American Airlines Center.
Nowitzki hit 9-of-16 field-goal attempts - including three three-pointers - and drained all eight of his free throws. Dallas also got a 19-point, 13- rebound effort from Josh Howard on its way to winning a second straight and seventh in 10 games.
Devin Harris added 17 for the Mavs, while Jerry Stackhouse contributed 16 off the bench and Erick Dampier went for 13 points and seven boards.
Stephen Jackson led Golden State with 25 points, while Al Harrington added 21 and six rebounds.
"I think Dirk just played his game, like the MVP," said Jackson of Nowitzki. "I thought he played great. I think if I could put my hand on one thing it was that he was more patient on the block and instead of passing the ball when he posted up he shot over (the defense."
The Warriors shot just 41.8 percent from the floor, allowed the Mavs to hit nearly 54 percent of their field goal attempts, and saw a two-game win streak come to a close.
"We're ready to take that next step in our season and show everyone he team that's assembled this year is the real Mavericks now," said Dallas guard Jason Terry. "It takes a game like this at the start of the new year to kind of get you going."
Dallas finished the first quarter on a 20-10 burst to take a 36-23 advantage into the second. The lead was 60-43 on an Erick Dampier jump hook with 3:14 to go in the half, but Golden State scored the last nine before the break to close within eight.
Nowitzki's free throws with 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the third pushed the Mavs lead back to 11, at 80-69, but the Warriors used another quick run to make it 89-85 at the end of the quarter.
Dallas then scored the first 11 points of the final 12 minutes to take a commanding 100-85 lead, and the Warriors didn't have another run in them.
Nowitzki's three with just under five minutes to go ballooned the lead to 108-89, and Golden State never threatened the rest of the way.
