Denver Nuggets held off the
Golden State Warriors, 124-120, in the front end of a home-and-home set at Oracle Arena.
Carmelo Anthony added 30 points and eight rebounds while Marcus Camby had 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Nuggets, who have won four of their last five games.
Stephen Jackson had 32 points and five rebounds while Baron Davis donated 29 points, 13 assists and five rebounds for the Warriors, who had won four of five coming into the game.
These two teams will meet in Denver on Sunday.
Trailing by five points to start the fourth quarter, Golden State tied the game with a 7-2 run capped by a Kelenna Azubuike layup with 9:18 to play to make it a 104-104 contest.
Iverson nailed five free throws to again put Denver on top, but Golden State hung around and trailed by three points, 115-112, as Monta Ellis put in a driving layup with 4:24 to play.
Consecutive stops by Golden State allowed the team to tie the game at 118-118 after an Ellis layup and a kiss off the glass by Davis with 1:26 left in the game.
However, Iverson responded with a layup and two free throws from Anthony put the Nuggets up 122-118 with 53.1 seconds to play.
Davis hit a fadeaway jumper with 47.3 seconds to play and had a chance to tie the game after Anthony missed a jump shot, but Jackson missed a three and Camby drained a pair of free throws with under 10 seconds to play to seal the win.
The first quarter was a high-scoring affair as the teams combined for 71 points, but Anthony and Iverson combined for 22 points to help Denver to a 39-32 lead after 12 minutes.
Several times in the second quarter the Warriors got to within three points, and trailed 55-52 after Al Harrington nailed a jumper with 5:28 left in the half, but the Nuggets got the next six points and took a 71-64 lead into the locker room.
Golden State closed the gap in the third quarter and two free throws from Jackson with 8:25 left made it an 80-79 Denver game.
Linas Kleiza, though, scored Denver's final 11 points of the third quarter and helped the Nuggets take a 102-97 lead into the final quarter.
