St. Paul, MN (Best E Casino) - Marian Gaborik's goal with 2:39 remaining in overtime gave the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 victory over the
St. Louis Blues at Xcel Energy Center.
Gaborik picked up a loose puck just inside his own blueline and quickly darted up the ice up the left wing on an odd-man rush with Eric Belanger. As Gaborik got closer to the net, he used Belanger as a decoy and snapped the puck past Manny Legace on the short side to win it for Minnesota.
Brian Rolston had a goal and an assist while Niklas Backstrom stopped 22 shots for the Wild, who have won three straight.
"It's tough to lose a 2-0 lead," said Backstrom. "It would have felt much worse if we would have lost this game, so it was a big goal by Gaborik to get us two points and I think we earned those two points."
Lee Stempniak and Brad Boyes scored while Legace ended with 23 saves for the Blues, who had a three-game win streak snapped.
"We played hard, even though we got down two goals," said St. Louis defenseman Barrett Jackman."We tried to get pressure on their defense, I think we did that all night."
The Wild grabbed a 1-0 lead with 9:55 remaining in the first period. On a two- man advantage, Rolston slid a pass to Brent Burns in the slot and his snap shot beat Legace high to the glove side.
Minnesota extended its lead to 2-0 just nine seconds into the second stanza as Rolston tallied his eighth goal of the season off a feed from Belanger.
St. Louis managed to get on the board at 5:22 of the second after Stempniak fired a quick wrist shot past Backstrom and just under the crossbar from the high slot.
The Blues then managed to even the score at 2-2 at 11:18 of the second after Boyes took a feed from Paul Kariya down low and slipped the puck through the legs of Backstrom.
