Seattle, WA (Best E Casino) - Carlos Boozer scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, and his finger roll layup with 17.6 seconds remaining helped Utah escape with a 103-101 victory over the futile Seattle SuperSonics at Key Arena.
Boozer, who also pulled down 15 rebounds, was one of six players in double figures for the Jazz, who won back-to-back games for the first time this season and are 4-2 to open the campaign. Ronnie Brewer chipped in with 16 points, Deron Williams had 14 and dished out 11 assists, Mehmet Okur finished with 13 and Andrei Kirilenko anchored the starting five with a 10-point effort. Matt Harpring donated 11 points off the bench.
Kevin Durant paced Seattle with a team-high 20 points, but the Sonics fell to 0-6 for just the second time since the team began play in 1967, matching the franchise-worst start from the 1969-70 season.
Jeff Green had a career-high 19 points, Chris Wilcox scored 17 points and Damien Wilkins had 13 for the Sonics, who held their own throughout the contest but couldn't pull out the win. Nick Collison and Delonte West also chipped in with 10 apiece.
Down by three heading to the fourth quarter, a Wilcox free throw, Collison layup and three-point play by Durant -- a running jumper and a shot from the charity stripe -- put the Sonics on top 81-78 less than two minutes in.
Utah battled back and reclaimed an 84-83 lead on a Boozer jump shot with 8:12 left, but the teams nearly matched each other shot-for-shot as the clock ticked down inside of two minutes remaining in the game.
A Williams jumper at 1:44 put the Jazz up, 101-99, but Durant had the answer for the Sonics in the form of a floating jumper with a minute left that tied it up.
Boozer then scored the go-ahead basket over Durant with 17.6 seconds showing on the clock, and Durant had a potential game-tying shot in the lane blocked by Kirilenko with three seconds left that ended the contest.
Utah built a 28-25 lead after the first quarter, then opened a 34-25 advantage early in the second, forcing the Sonics to try and chip away at the deficit. Seattle closed it to 36-32 on a Wilcox turnaround jumper at 7:56, but continued to play from behind all the way to break.
The Jazz went to halftime with a 52-46 edge, but barely managed to keep the Sonics at bay in the third, heading to the final stanza with a 78-75 lead.
