Blacksburg, VA (Best E Casino) - Virginia Tech honored the victims of the April massacre in a ceremony prior to the kickoff of the Hokies' season opener against East Carolina. A moment of silence opened the ceremony, followed by the national anthem and a flyover of two Air Force jets. The capacity crowd at Lane Stadium then turned its attention to Hokievision, the scoreboard in the stadium, where a short video tribute was played. Seung Hui Cho, a severely disturbed Virginia Tech student, killed 32 students and wounded 17 more on April 16 before killing himself in one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history. Thirty-two orange balloons, one for each victim, were released into the air. Both football teams took the field at the same time, and each team's entire senior class and head coaches joined the team captains on the field for the coin toss.
