Lake Forest, IL (Best E Casino) - The Chicago Bears Wednesday signed coach Lovie Smith to a four-year contract extension through the 2011 season, and extended general manager Jerry Angelo's contract through the 2013 season. The 2005 NFL coach of the year, Smith led the Bears to a 15-4 record and their first NFC championship since 1985. Chicago lost to Indianapolis, 29-17, in Super Bowl XLI. Smith had one year left on a contract worth $1.35 million in 2006, and was slated to earn $1.45 million next season.
