Atlantic City, NJ (Best E Casino) - Triple Crown winner Glidemaster has been announced as the 2006 Horse of the Year in harness racing. The 2006 Dan Patch Awards for excellence in harness racing were presented at the annual awards dinner at the Borgata Hotel and Casino.
Glidemaster, co-owned by Brittany Farms, swept the Trotting Triple Crown by winning the Hambletonian, Kentucky Futurity and Yonkers Trot. Glidemaster became the eighth standardbred to capture trotting's Triple Crown.
Glidemaster is trained by Blair Burgess and was driven by John Campbell and George Brennan. The three-year-old colt earned more than $1.9 million last year with eight wins in 15 starts. He already was named champion three-year- old trotter for 2006.
Glidemaster was also honored as Trotter of the Year for 2006. His stablemate, Passionate Glide, was second in the voting for Horse of the Year. She is the 2006 champion three-year-old filly trotter. Passionate Glide earned more than $1 million is 2006 while winning 13 of 15 starts.
Breeders' Crown champion Sand Vic is the champion older male trotter and Peaceful Way is the top older female trotter.
North America Cup winner Total Truth has been chosen as both the 2006 Pacer of the year and champion three-year-old pacer.
Artzina is the champion two-year-old male pacer and Isabella Blue Chip has been voted champion two-year-old filly pacer.
The 2006 champion two-year-old trotting filly is NOVA Award winner Pampered Princess. Donato Hanover was previously announced as champion two-year-old trotting male.
NOVA Award winner Darlin's Delight is the champion three-year-old pacing filly.
Burning Point, winner of better than $750,000, is the champion older pacing mare.
