Harrisburg, PA (Best E Casino) - Triple Crown winner Glidemaster and co- owned Passionate Glide have won Dan Patch Awards for 2006. The two trotters are among five harness racing horses that secured divisional championships.
Glidemaster is co-owned by Brittany Farms which also owns Passionate Glide. By sweeping the Hambletonian, Kentucky Futurity and Yonkers Trot, Glidemaster became the eighth standardbred to notch trotting's Triple Crown.
Glidemaster is trained by Blair Burgess and was driven by John Campbell and George Brennan. The three-year-old colt earned more than $1.9 million this year with eight wins in 15 starts.
Passionate Glide is the champion three-year-old trotting filly. She is trained by Jimmy Takter and was driven by Ron Pierce. Passionate Glide won the Hambletonian Oaks and finished 2006 with better than $1 million in earnings. She won 13 of 15 starts.
Other standardbreds to secure Dan Patch Awards are two-year-old trotting male Donato Hanover, Lis Mara as champion older male pacer and Peaceful Way is the champion older trotting mare for 2006.
Finalists in all the remaining divisions have also been announced.
Artzina, Kenneth J and Yankee Skipper are the three finalists for champion two-year-old male pacer. Artzina has already won the NOVA Award from the Harness Tracks of America.
NOVA Award winner Luck of Michelle is a finalist for two-year-old pacing filly along with Isabella Blue Chip.
The two finalists for two-year-old trotting fillies and NOVA Award winner Pampered Princess and Possess The Magic. Possess The Magic is owned by Brittany Farms.
In the three-year-old male pacer division, is will be fight between Meadowlands Pace champ Artistic Fella and North America Cup winner Total Truth. Total Truth is the NOVA Award recipient.
NOVA Award winner Darlin's Delight and Breeders' Crown winner My Little Dragon are the two finalists for champion three-year-old pacing filly.
Burning Point and NOVA Award winner Glowing Report are the finalists for champion older pacing mare.
Breeders' Crown champion Sand Vic and 2005 Hambletonian winner Vivid Photo are the two finalists for older trotting male. Vivid Photo was last year's Dan Patch winner as top three-year-old male trotter. Sand Vic has already received the NOVA Award as division champion.
The Dan Patch Awards are voted on by members of the United States Harness Writers Association. The year-end honors will be received at USHWAs annual awards dinner on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. At that time Horse of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Trotter of the Year will be announced.
