Harrisburg, PA (Best E Casino) - Glidemaster's run to the trotting Triple Crown has been recognized by the United States Harness Writers Association. The three-year-old's owner and driver are among those receiving year ending honors. George Segal's Brittany Farms has been voted the Norman Woolworth Memorial Owner of the Year. Segal's Glidemaster became the eighth trotter to sweep the Triple Crown races. The trotter finished 2006 with eight wins in 15 starts for more than $1.9 million. Stablemate Passionate Glide has 13 wins in 15 starts for almost $1.1 million. Hall of Fame driver John Campbell, who drove Glidemaster to victory in the Hambletonian, is the 2006 Driver of the Year. Campbell, however, was unable to be in the sulky when the three-year-old won the Yonkers Trot. Campbell had suffered a fractured leg in late October. The Glen Garnsey Memorial goes to trainer Mickey Burke. The 70-year-old Burke leads all trainers with 427 wins and has better than $5.5 million. The Rising Star Award goes to driver Jody Jamieson. The Canadian native has won 551 races in 2,850 starts for more than $8.6 million. The re-opening of Tioga Downs in upstate New York drew the attention of the voters. Track owner Jeff Gural has won the Proximity Award and Jason Settlemoir has been honored with the Breakthrough Award. Tioga Downs is co- owned along with Vernon Downs. The year-end honors will be received at USHWAs annual Awards Dinner on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
