Charlotte, NC (Best E Casino) - International Speedway Corp. has ended all plans to build a track on Staten Island. The company, which has close ties to NASCAR, had purchased a 440-acre site in 2004 and planned to build an 80,000- seat track. "While we are disappointed that we could not complete the speedway development on Staten Island, our enthusiasm for the metropolitan New York market is in no way dampened," said ISC president Lesa France Kennedy, brother of NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France. "We continue to view the region as a prime location for a major motorsports facility." Both environmental and resident concerns caused problems for ISC which owns 11 major tracks where NASCAR holds many of its current races. ISC is also working to open a track on a 950-acre site it Kitsap County in Washington.
