Bugel still blows with the Redskins, even without Gibbs Headlines 06/12/2008

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -At first glance, Joe Bugel appears stuck in a time warp as he works the offensive linemen through their offseason practice drills. The gruff voice and chiseled face are the same, even as the Washington Redskins have changed around him.

Wasn't Bugel the longtime lieutenant of Joe Gibbs? Didn't Gibbs rouse his beloved ``Buges'' out of retirement with a middle-of-the-night phone call four years ago? Now that Gibbs has left the NFL again, shouldn't Bugel go back to enjoying the good life of lei

Redskins' Daniels defies age with powerlifting surge Headlines 06/12/2008
subject for Phillip Daniels, a 35-year-old defensive end whose recent history of injuries suggests a body that should be wearing out very soon.

This offseason, Daniels took the Father Time burden and lifted it from his shoulders. Literally.

The Washington Redskins veteran joined a powerlifting team and has become a sensation. At a meet in March, he won his weight class with a 633-pound squat and a 600-pound dead-lift.

And he's not done yet. When his teammates scatter for vacation at the end of this week's o

today have no idea what it was like in the '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s, even the '80s,'' said Mike Haynes, the league's vice president of player and employee development.

About half of the teams have already visited the hall. The Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins will be the last to visit when they play in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton in early August.

The NFL will review the program later and decide whether to continue it next year as part of the league's rookie orientation, Haynes said.

Redskins TE Cooley breaking ground in his blog NFL Football 06/05/2008

``I try to never worry what people think about me. I kind of do whatever I want to do.'' - blog posting by Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - On April 15, Captain Chaos' groundbreaking blog got a bit too revealing.

Being tax day, Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley decided to post online the check for about $86,000 he was preparing to send to the government. Naturally, he made sure to edit out his personal details.

``I posted it - but I posted the pre-edited check,'' Co

Break-in at Herron's home bothers Packers players NFL Football 06/04/2008

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -It could happen near Miami, where Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died after being shot during a robbery at his home last year.

Or in the Chicago area, where NBA stars Antoine Walker and Eddie Curry were robbed in home invasions last year and newly drafted NFL rookie Rashard Mendenhall was robbed last month.

But in Green Bay?

This week's revelation that Packers running back Noah Herron had to use a bed post to fight off an intruder in his home over the weekend was another sign

S Landry returns to Redskins offseason practices NFL Football 06/03/2008

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -Safety LaRon Landry rejoined the Washington Redskins for offseason practices Tuesday, following his unexcused absence the day before.

``I was at home taking care of a lot of family issues,'' the second-year safety said. ``But I came back and I am ready to work.''

Landry and veteran cornerback Shawn Springs were the only non-injured players absent when the team reassembled this week for two weeks of practices, the last sessions before training camp begins next month.

Redskins sign Schweigert Headlines 06/02/2008

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -The Washington Redskins signed free agent Stuart Schweigert on Monday, giving the team an extra option in the defensive backfield as it contemplates moving LaRon Landry from free safety to strong safety.

Schweigert is a free safety, having started 42 games in four seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He lost his starting job late last season and was released by the Raiders last month.

``It feels like a thousand-pound bear's been lifted off my chest. It's time for a fresh start,'' Schweigert
