his millions on a car because dealers are so eager to loan free rides to him.

Smith knows he's led a charmed existence for a while now, ever since his unbeaten season with Utah in 2004 catapulted him to the top of the NFL's draft boards, where the San Francisco 49ers made him the heir to Joe Montana and Steve Young.

Trouble is, every dream eventually ends - and Smith's first 2 1/2 NFL seasons will never be found in a storybook.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -Justin Smiley, the San Francisco 49ers' starting right guard, will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery after dislocating the joint during his club's loss at Atlanta last weekend.

Smiley, who has started every game on the 49ers' line for the last 2 1/2 seasons, is the second San Francisco lineman whose season ended in the last three days. Left tackle Jonas Jennings was placed on injured reserve Monday because of an ankle injury.

Falcons run back into winner's circle NFL Football 11/06/2007
(Best E Casino) - For only the second time this season, the Atlanta Falcons celebrated the sweet taste of success. The Falcons beat the San Francisco 49ers, 20-16 on Sunday, thanks to an old friend - the running game. In years past, under previous regimes, the Falcons were perennially near the top of the NFL in rushing. It was largely attributed to run-blocking schemes by former hierarchies, and head coach Bobby Petrino, a gunslinger at Louisville, seemed to place less emphasis on the run. Sunday was a different

highest for a Sunday afternoon regular-season game in more than a decade.

The matchup of undefeated teams drew a 20.1 rating and 36 share on CBS, as New England came from behind to win 24-20. That's the highest rating since the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers attracted a 20.2/36 on Nov. 10, 1996, in a meeting of the winners of the previous four Super Bowls. Atlanta, GA (Best E Casino) - Morten Andersen kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter and the Falcons came up with two crucial interceptions in the closing minutes, as Atlanta held off the San Francisco 49ers, 20-16, at the Georgia Dome. Warrick Dunn ran 27 times for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons (2-6), who snapped a three-game skid. Joey Harrington connected on 14-of-25 passes for 138 yards and was picked off once for Atlanta. "We wanted to make sure the fans stayed in their seats, so we

Niners RB Frank Gore still hobbling; CB Walt Harris doubtful Headlines 11/02/2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -Frank Gore was limited again Friday in practice with the San Francisco 49ers, who will make a game-time decision on their Pro Bowl running back's availability for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

Gore, who sprained his ankle two weeks ago against the New York Giants, has been limited in practice all week. He managed just 41 yards against New Orleans last Sunday, giving him 435 yards rushing and three touchdowns this season.

will play two straight games as the host, starting with a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday afternoon. The Saints started the 2007 season with four straight losses, but have rebounded in a big way. Last week's 31-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers pulled New Orleans within one game of the top spot in the NFC South. The team has outscored opponents 81-43 over the last three games after being outscored 119-51 during its first four contests. Much of the success can credited to the recent play of
Struggling Falcons, Niners, Take Stage at Georgia Dome NFL Football 11/02/2007
(Best E Casino) - The San Francisco 49ers are not where they want to be right now in regard to their season. But like most teams this year, the club may enjoy a trip to Atlanta, where it will try to halt its five-game losing streak in a battle against the Falcons at the Georgia Dome. San Francisco hasn't posted a victory since defeating the St. Louis Rams in the season's second week to improve to 2-0. The 49ers' current 2-5 mark has them in third place in the NFC West, two games back of front-running Seattle. Th

in nearly a month.

Since missing two starts and recuperating from back and groin injuries during Baltimore's bye week, McNair is preparing to start Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers for his first action since an Oct. 7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

``I felt good, the two or three weeks I had off were good for the body,'' McNair said Thursday. ``It gave me time to heal up. It's kind of tough when you have injuries to go out there and compete. Overall, I'm feeling good.''
