wo NFC champions is on tap for this Sunday, as the Seattle Seahawks are set to host last year's Super Bowl runner-up, the Chicago Bears, at Qwest Field. Seattle cruised to a 13-3 mark in 2005 and earned a trip to the Super Bowl, where it lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Seahawks had a return ticket to the postseason last year but were defeated by the Bears, 27-24, in overtime in the NFC Divisional Playoff Game. Chicago went on to reach the Super Bowl and lost to the Indianapolis Colts. Of the two teams this ye
Mahan only fifth Steelers center in 44 seasons NFL Football 11/16/2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) -Sean Mahan knew what he was getting into when he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Perhaps he didn't know all the names, or be able to trace the lineage of his position back to the 1960s. Still, he knew playing center for the Steelers requires an uncommon distinction and a sense of responsibility.

A list of his most immediate predecessors explains why:

Ray Mansfield, 1964-75. Started on two Super Bowl-winning teams.

The late Mike Webster, 1976-88. Multi-time All-Pro. Multi-time Pro B

05 season because of a suspension for numerous violations of the league's drug policy. The running back will begin practicing on Monday, according to the newspaper, and he will be available to play in the following Monday night's contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cameron, however, has not decided if Williams will play against the Steelers. In April 2006, Williams was suspended for his fourth violation of the league's anti-drug policy. He reportedly failed a drug test for a banned substance that was not mari
Steelers' Clark has spleen removed NFL Football 11/15/2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) -Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Ryan Clark's spleen was removed during surgery Thursday, a day after he was placed on injured reserve.

Clark cannot play again this season, but is expected to resume his football career next year if he has no further complications. Clark had problems with his spleen while he was with the Washington Redskins, but they did not prevent him from playing a full season with Pittsburgh in 2006.

The problem recurred during the Steelers' Oct. 21 game against the Bronc

One-win Jets making Steelers nervous Headlines 11/15/2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) -The New York Jets are 1-8 with six losses in a row and have beaten only winless Miami. The Jets have been outscored by 69 points and are giving up more yards rushing than any team in the league.

No wonder the Pittsburgh Steelers are nervous.

The Steelers (7-2), owners of a two-game lead in the AFC North after winning three in a row, faced a similar road matchup a month ago in Denver. The Broncos had lost three in a row, were coming off a 41-3 home-field loss to San Diego and their rushing d

Steelers place Clark, Tuman on IR NFL Football 11/14/2007
Pittsburgh, PA (Best E Casino) - The Pittsburgh Steelers placed safety Ryan Clark and tight end Jerame Tuman on injured reserve Wednesday. Clark, who has an injured spleen, registered one sack and 22 tackles in six games this season. Tuman, suffering from back problems, has only one reception for nine yards and a touchdown in six games. To fill the roster spots, the Steelers promoted center Marvin Philip and cornerback Grant Mason from the practice squad. Philip was a sixth-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 2006 d
It's a not-so-special season for Steelers in kick coverage NFL Football 11/13/2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Steelers are 7-2, the third time in four seasons their record has been that good or better through nine games. Next up on their schedule are the Jets and Dolphins, who own exactly one victory between them.

The Steelers' offense is more multidimensional than it has been in years. They have three productive receivers (Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Heath Miller), a breakaway runner in Willie Parker and a quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, who is enjoying a turnaround season with 2

Big Ben's running - yes, running - keeps Steelers atop division Headlines 11/12/2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Willie Parker could take off for 99 yards some Sunday and he still wouldn't have the Pittsburgh Steelers' most time-consuming run of the season.

Ben Roethlisberger didn't fool the Cleveland Browns with his footwork or his speed. Especially, his speed. The very Big Ben is listed at 240 pounds, probably weighs closer to 250 and runs more like a linebacker - OK, maybe a defensive lineman - than a skill position player.

No matter. Roethlisberger's 30-yard run highlighted a second-half comeback
