ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals recalled reliever Mark Worrell from Triple-A Memphis and optioned Kelvin Jimenez to their top farm club before Sunday's game with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It's the 25-year-old Worrell's first time on the big league roster. He is not related to former Cardinals closer Todd Worrell.

Mark Worrell was 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 21 games with Memphis. The right-hander also struck out 38 in 24 innings.

Worrell was expected to arrive in St. Louis from Albuquerque, N.M., someti

(Best E Casino) - The St. Louis Cardinals have received all sorts of unexpected contributions during the team's strong two-month stretch. The surprising club is hoping for another lift out of rookie Mike Parisi in tonight's encounter with the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals had to place starting pitcher Joel Pineiro on the 15-day disabled list earlier this week due to a groin strain, with Parisi getting the call to fill the right-hander's spot in the rotation. Duncan was optioned to Triple-A Memphis to iron out his difficulties. The Cardinals recalled power-hitting outfielder Joe Mather from Memphis.

Mather was in the lineup Friday, batting second against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

ams this season due to the contributions of players like Todd Wellemeyer. The little-known right-hander will attempt to extend a personal win streak when he takes the mound for the Redbirds in tonight's opener of a four-game series with the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Reds reinstate Mercker from DL MLB Baseball 05/29/2008
Cincinnati, OH (Best E Casino) - The Cincinnati Reds reinstated relief pitcher Kent Mercker from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday. To make room for Mercker, the club optioned pitcher Matt Belisle to Louisville of the International League. Belisle had a 1-4 record and a bloated 7.28 ERA in six starts for Cincinnati.

Jay Bruce was bound to make an out sooner or later. The Cincinnati Reds will lose again at home, too.

Eventually.

The Reds sure didn't show any signs of slowing Wednesday night, when they knocked around the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 9-1 win that was their ninth in a row at home.

The last time a Cincinnati team went on this kind of a roll by the banks of the Ohio River was in 1980.

``You have to feel like you can come home and win,'' manager Dusty Baker said. ``If you look up and down the leagues, very fe
