Phillies offense going through epic slump MLB Baseball 06/27/2008
he bottom of the barrel. The Phillies have faced some tough competition over their last nine games, including three-game sets with a pair of first-place clubs in the Boston Red Sox (AL East) and Angels (NL West) in addition to three games versus the Oakland Athletics, who have the best earned run average in all of baseball at 3.38. Manuel shook things up on Wednesday by shuffling his struggling batting order. Among the changes: leadoff hitter Rollins moving to the third spot, three-hole hitter Utley batting seco
A's aim to resume dominance of Giants MLB Baseball 06/27/2008
(Best E Casino) - The Bay Bridge Series has been a one-sided affair as of late. The San Francisco Giants hope to reverse that trend when they take on the Oakland Athletics in the opener of a three-game set from McAfee Coliseum. Oakland has won the last six meetings with San Francisco and nine of the 10 most recent clashes between the area rivals. That includes a three-game sweep of the Giants at AT&T Park earlier this month, with the Athletics outscoring San Francisco by a 14-4 margin during the series. Th
Indians try to avoid getting swept by Giants MLB Baseball 06/26/2008
Aaron Rowand had a two-run single for the Giants, who have won two straight to improve 3-2 on a nine-game road trip and 20-20 away from the bay in 2008. John Bowker added a solo home run in the win for San Francisco. The Giants will visit the nearby Oakland Athletics for three games after their set against Cleveland. Matt Cain will face the Indians in Thursday's series finale, and is 4-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 16 starts this season. Cain has won two of his last three starts, including last Friday's performance at Ka
Phils hope Kendrick can stop bleeding in Oakland MLB Baseball 06/25/2008
(Best E Casino) - Though he is a pitcher, Kyle Kendrick may be what the Phillies need to snap out of their hitting funk. Philadelphia tries to halt a season-long six-game losing streak tonight in the middle portion of a three- game series with the Oakland Athletics at McAfee Coliseum. The Phillies have scored just 11 runs over their skid, with all six setbacks coming against the American League after yesterday's 5-2 setback to Oakland. Philadelphia is just 2-8 versus the AL this season. However, the club has scored 49 runs over Kendrick's last six starts, including a 20-2 rout of the St. Louis Cardinals on June 13. The right-hander didn't do his part last time, though, as he gave up six runs on six hits -- including two early homers -- in just three innings of a loss to Boston on Wednesday. Kendrick was 5-0 over his previous 11 outings before that defeat, his first since April 16. It also marked just the second time in his last 12 starts that the Phils lost. The 23-year-old is 6-3 with a 5.06 earned run average this season and has never faced Oakland before. Jamie Moyer (7-5) took a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning last night, but finished up allowing five hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings with a season-high nine strikeouts. Pat Burrell hit a solo homer for the Phillies, who are on their worst slide since dropping seven straight from June 11-17, 2006. Ryan Howard knocked in the other run for the Phillies, who thanks to Florida's loss to the Rays on Tuesday still cling to a one-game lead for first place in the NL East. Chase Utley went 0-for-2 with two walks and is mired in a 1- for-29 slump that has dropped his average from .325 on June 3 to .289. Emil Brown belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning for the A's. Jack Cust added a two-run shot in Oakland's third victory in its last four games and seventh in the last 10 tests. Joe Blanton (4-10) held the ice-cold Phillies offense to four hits and a run in seven innings, fanning five and walking four. Kurt Suzuki went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He is also batting .390 (16-for-41) in interleague play this year, helping Oakland to an 8-5 mark versus the NL. With the win, the Athletics remained five games back of the Angels for first place in the AL West. Greg Smith starts for the A's on Wednesday and has posted lines of five innings, three hits and one run allowed in each of his last two starts, though he has also walked nine in that span. Those numbers earned him a win in San Francisco on June 13 and a no-decision versus Arizona on Thursday. The 24-year-old lefty, who has never faced the Phillies, is 4-5 with a 3.51 ERA in 14 starts this year. These two clubs last met in 2005, with Oakland taking two of three at home. The Phils and A's also met in Philadelphia in 2003, with the Phillies taking two of three.
Brown's HR in seventh helps A's send Phils to sixth straight loss MLB Baseball 06/25/2008
Oakland, CA (Best E Casino) - Emil Brown belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning, and the Oakland Athletics downed the flailing Philadelphia Phillies, 5-2, in the opener of a three-game set. Jack Cust added a two-run homer for the Athletics, who have won three of four and seven of 10. Joe Blanton (4-10) held the ice-cold Phillies offense to four hits and a run in seven innings, fanning five and walking four. Jamie Moyer (7-5) took a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning, but finished up allowing five
Oakland wraps up series with Marlins MLB Baseball 06/22/2008
(Best E Casino) - Justin Duchscherer takes aim at his fourth win in as many starts this afternoon, when the Oakland Athletics wrap up their three-game interleague series with the Florida Marlins at McAfee Coliseum. Duchscherer won for the fourth time in his last five starts on Tuesday in Arizona, as he held the Diamondbacks to a run and five hits in eight innings to run his record to 7-4, while lowering his earned run average to 2.08. The 30-year-old right-hander, who has never faced the Marlins, has been espe
Marlins use late rally to down A's, move closer to NL East lead MLB Baseball 06/22/2008
Oakland, CA (Best E Casino) - Dan Uggla had a three-run double in the ninth after Cody Ross tied the game with a solo home run in the eighth, as the Florida Marlins used a late rally to topple the Oakland Athletics, 6-4, in the second of a three-game interleague set. Jorge Cantu and Wes Helms each added an RBI for the Marlins, who have won four of six. With the win, they moved a game behind Philadelphia for first place in the National League East, as the Phillies lost on Saturday to the Los Angeles Angels. Ric
Nolasco, Eveland square off at McAfee MLB Baseball 06/21/2008
(Best E Casino) - Ricky Nolasco tries for seventh win in his last eight decisions this evening when the Florida Marlins continue their three-game interleague affair with the Oakland Athletics at McAfee Coliseum. Nolasco is slowly evolving into the ace of the upstart Marlins' rotation and has won his last two and five of his last six starts. His latest victory came on Sunday against Tampa Bay, as he allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits in 8 2/3 innings to run his record to 7-4, while lowering his earned
A's kick off long homestand MLB Baseball 06/20/2008
(Best E Casino) - Seattle has seemingly been out of the AL West race since opening day, and Texas, while still hanging around, figures to fade as the summer sun intensifies. It appears that the Oakland Athletics are the only team capable of giving the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim a run in the division. Tonight, the A's hope to halt a two-game slide as they begin a nine-game homestand with three in a row against the Marlins. Rich Harden will be on the hill for the home team, and he carries a sparkling 4-0 reco

ent more than 10 years in the American League as a Mariner and a Yankee. Arizona has won two straight after a three-game slide and sits 4 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West. In Thursday's 2-1 home win over the Oakland Athletics in the finale of a three- game series, Justin Upton went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run to lead the charge. Chris Young had two hits and knocked in the other run for the D'Backs, who will visit the Twins, Red Sox and Marlins on this trek
