| (Best E Casino) - Earlier this season it seemed that nobody in the East would be able to catch up to the Ottawa Senators, but the Montreal Canadiens have changed that notion considerably. The Canadiens are 7-2-1 so far in January and have taken advantage of Ottawa's slump, which seems to have been brought on by the absence of top-line winger Dany Heatley. Montreal heads into the All-Star break trailing the Senators by just six points for the leads in the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference. Montreal has s |

Ottawa hopes that offensive explosion is a sign that the team is learning to play without Heatley. To make matters worse for Ottawa, the Montreal Canadiens are making a run at the Senators' first-place spot in both the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference. Ottawa currently holds both spots with 66 points, but the Habs are just six points behind. The Senators need to weather the storm without Heatl |

The Montreal Canadiens needed three tries to beat the Atlanta Thrashers in a shootout. Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Vesa Toskala took eight to win one of those tiebreakers anywhere against anyone. Mats Sundin and Alex Steen scored goals to win it and get Toskala out of his career-long shootout slump. ``It seemed like I was 0-10 in shootouts ... 0-7 doesn't seem that bad now, but it's nice to get the two points,'' Toskala said after the Maple Leafs' 3-2 shootout win in Boston over the Bruins on Thursday night |

| Atlanta, GA (Best E Casino) - Andrei Kostitsyn scored the game-winner in the shootout as the Montreal Canadiens downed the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-2, at Philips Arena. After Slava Kozlov missed the net on Atlanta's first shot, Kostitsyn skated in on net and slipped a shot between the pads of Kari Lehtonen. Cristobal Huet then made a stick save on Marian Hossa's shot before Saku Koivu sealed the win with a wrister that Lehtonen swallowed, but he drifted too far back into the net and the puck crossed the goal line. |
